  • New Yorkers fume over revelation MTA lost $5.1B on unpaid tolls, violations as honest drivers slapped with congestion pricing

NYPost.com - January 27, 2025 - This news is taking a toll on honest New Yorkers.

Outrage mounted in the Big Apple Monday after the revelation the MTA lost $5.1 billion in unpaid tolls and fees over four years – while drivers doing the right thing are forced to pay more.

The massive unpaid collections at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s nine bridges and tunnels surpasses the estimated $500 million to $800 million expected to be generated annually from the new $9 first-in-the-nation congestion toll to enter Midtown Manhattan south of 60th Street. • TransCore’s Tolling System Goes Lives with PA Turnpike’s Open Road Tolling

Wric.com - January 21, 2025 - TransCore, a leader in advanced tolling and traffic management solutions, today announced the successful phase one go-live of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission’s (PA Turnpike) statewide conversion to open road tolling (ORT). With its groundbreaking cashless Infinity roadside tolling system now live on the eastern part of the PA Turnpike, TransCore’s system will also go live across western Pennsylvania when the PA Turnpike expands ORT in 2027.

To improve roadway safety, efficiency, and convenience, the PA Turnpike partnered with TransCore to relocate tolling points from interchange locations to overhead gantries installed between turnpike entry and exit points. The newly deployed Infinity system provides electronic tolling at highway speeds with a combination of RFID technology to read E-ZPass transponders and advanced in-lane sensors to identify, classify, and process Toll By Plate transactions. • NY petition targeting E-ZPass late fees and congestion pricing gains thousands of backers: ‘Legal extortion’

NYPost.com - January 19, 2025 - A New York driver who says he’s fed up with E-ZPass tolls has launched an online petition to change the system, including congestion pricing — and has already garnered thousands of backers.

Some of the people who signed the petition, which has amassed more than 7,000 signatures since last week, claim they’ve fallen into debt over such things as E-ZPass’s late fees — racking up more than $100,000 in penalties alone from the e-tolling system. Read more >>

  • Traffic into NYC drops 7.5% in first week of new congestion toll

Syracuse.com - January 14, 2025 - NEW YORK (AP) — A new toll on drivers entering the core of Manhattan brought modest but measurable traffic reductions to New York City’s heavily-gridlocked streets in its first week of operation, according to preliminary data released Monday by the state’s transit authority.

Known as “congestion pricing,” the first-in-the-nation program launched on Jan. 5, collecting $9 from most passenger cars entering the city below Central Park during peak hours and higher fees on trucks and other vehicles. In the days since, total traffic in the tolling zone has dropped by 7.5% — or roughly 43,000 cars per day — compared to the equivalent period last year, Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said. • The latest 'smishing' scam came to my phone. How you can spot it and protect yourself

Patriotledger.com - January 14, 2025 - My turn to receive the latest fraudulent "smishing" scam arrived at 9:27 a.m. Sunday when a text message appeared on my iPhone.

It told me that I owed money for unpaid tolls on state highways. I do drive a lot, sometimes using toll roads, so I might have found it possibly credible but I'd been forewarned about this one.

A colleague, Scott Bowdridge, of Walpole, had warned me three days earlier. I was just a bit late on the apparent robo messaging circuit. This EZDriveMass scam has been especially active here since the start of January, according to digital coach Grace Buscher, of Quincy. It was first reported in Massachusetts last June by the state.
